Scottland FC manager Peter Ndlovu has set out a selection policy rooted firmly in merit, insisting places in the side are earned on the training pitch rather than granted through reputation or favour.
This comes after growing calls from supporters to see highly rated youngsters Mafios Chiweta and Kingsley Mureremba given more minutes.
Chiweta, the 2025 PSL Rookie of the Year, has found opportunities limited so far this season under coach Norman Mapeza.
However, Ndlovu says selection is earned on the training ground, with no room for favouritism, as players are required to match the intensity and standards set within the squad to break into the team.
“When you train very well, you play in this team. That’s how the coach’s approach is. So, nobody’s in there by favour or whatever,” he said.
“ You have to train hard to be in the team. So, if you’re probably not in the team, it’s not like you’re sidelined. You just have to work hard to come up to where the others are.”
Ndlovu says the team management continues to remind players that everyone will get their chance to play, and there is no division in the squad.
“We make sure that we try and tell the boys, because your time will come. So, besides that, the players that are not playing in the mourning, there’s nothing like that at the moment.”
Scottland’s dressing room structure where senior figures help maintain balance, ensuring competition does not disrupt unity.
“We’ve got senior players that take care of the players also, just to help us, so that we are together, we keep the unity and all that stuff.”
