Zimbabwe midfielder Marshall Munetsi is set to miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after picking up a calf injury last Wednesday.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers star went down shortly after coming on as an 85th-minute substitute in their Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest and could be sideline him until February 2026.

Wolves coach Rob Edwards confirmed Munetsi could be sidelined for up to six weeks, ruling him out of the tournament, which kicks off on December 21 in Morocco.

“It will be weeks, I don’t know how many at the moment, but at the moment it is looking like at least six weeks, I think,” Edwards told The Express and Star following Monday’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Zimbabwe’s final 23-man AFCON squad is expected to be announced this week. Placed in group B alongside Angola, Bafana Bafana and Egypt, The Warriors of Zimbabwe are the underdogs, looking at the FIFA rankings, where they are the least ranked team among the quartet.

Meanwhile, several players, including Khama Billiat and Walter Musona, are also set to miss the continental showpiece. Billiat seems to have retired from international football again. Musona was released from the ongoing camp, where the new coach, Marian Marinica, is fine-tuning the Warriors.
