Highlanders eye Mutizwa return but face PSL battle

Highlanders FC are intensifying efforts to re-sign Knox Mutizwa, but the move is far from straightforward, with interest from South African clubs complicating a potential return.

Mutizwa’s availability has drawn attention after his unexpected departure from Richards Bay FC, where he exited despite still having time remaining on his contract.

The timing of that exit raised questions, particularly given his involvement in the club’s ongoing push for a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership.

The 32-year-old forward scored four goals in 17 appearances this season, and his experience in South African football continues to make him an attractive option for clubs seeking proven attacking quality.

Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari is understood to be pushing for a reunion, with the striker viewed internally as a solution to Bosso’s early-season struggles in front of goal.

Highlanders remain winless after five matches, a run that has exposed a lack of cutting edge in attack.

The club, celebrating its 100th anniversary, is eager to strengthen, but competition is mounting. Magesi FC are among the PSL sides monitoring the situation, while Chippa United FC have also shown interest, with coach Vusi Vilakazi keen on a reunion following their previous stint together at Golden Arrows.

Interest extends beyond South Africa. CAPS United FC and Hard Rock FC are both reported to be tracking developments, while Casric Stars FC have also emerged as potential suitors.

Despite Highlanders’ push, early indications suggest Mutizwa could remain in South Africa, where his Betway Premiership pedigree continues to hold strong appeal for clubs looking to reinforce their attacking options ahead of next season.
