Norman Mapeza urges calm as Scottland FC chase results after slow start

Norman Mapeza is refusing to let early-season frustration dictate the narrative at Scottland and beneath the calm messaging lies a deeper test of belief,  keep the shape, trust the build-up, and wait for the goals to come.

The veteran coach struck a measured tone after his side opened the campaign with consecutive draws, insisting there will be no panic inside the dressing room.

“We are not putting ourselves under unnecessary pressure because of the two draws we have managed so far. It’s a work in progress and I’m sure things will come right as the season progresses,”Mapeza said.

But beyond the public reassurance, Mapeza’s comments reveal a coach carefully managing the mental state of a squad navigating the fine margins between dominance and results.

“Sometimes as coaches or as footballers, we tend to get affected if we are not getting positive results. But look, in terms of playing, in terms of how the guys have been performing, there’s nothing for me to complain about. We have spoken about it. Like I said, it’s all about us being patient. Results will definitely come.”

While results have stalled, underlying metrics like chance creation offer him a layer of comfort, and perhaps justification for patience.

“If we are not even creating those opportunities, then I’m sure it’s going to be a challenge in terms of working on their psychology. But they have been creating opportunities and that’s a plus for us.

Mabviravira are not a side in decline, they are a side caught in transition, producing enough to win games but lacking the clinical edge to convert control into points. Internally, that places the spotlight not on tactics, but on composure in decisive moments.

“So psychologically, we are okay. I’ve spoken to the boys and everybody believes that sometimes you need to be patient in this game of football. Results will definitely come.”

However, Scottland FC president Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya has indicated that coach Norman Mapeza is not under pressure despite a slow start to the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

Sakupwanya indicated he would only begin worrying about results around matchday 15.

“I will only start worrying about results around Matchday 15. For now, we are still adjusting to life in the topflight league. There is no need for unnecessary pressure on the technical team”.

The Mabvuku based side burst into the 2026 season with a statement 5-0 win over Dynamos, but have since lost momentum, settling for draws against Hardrock FC and Ngezi Platinum Stars, a dip that has already put early pressure on coach Norman Mapeza despite the campaign still taking shape.
