Benjani Mwaruwari says Highlanders FC are still building their combinations but remain determined to challenge for the league title and domestic honours in the Castle Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.
Speaking about the team’s ambitions, the Bosso coach stressed that the club’s targets remain high despite the ongoing rebuilding process.
“To be quite honest, we always aim high. We’re still building, we’re still finding some combinations, we’re still looking for a lot of things.”
The Bulawayo giants want to challenge for the title and compete for every trophy available in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League and domestic cup competitions.
“As soon as we get ready, as soon as we hit the level that we want, obviously we want to win the league, we want to compete for every cup that’s on the way,” he said.
Benjani admitted the process of developing the squad takes time, even though results are still required.
The former Warriors captain added that coaches often face pressure to deliver results while simultaneously developing the team.
“So we have to start slowly, combinations, once we get that right, I know that takes time. But as coaches, it’s unfortunate that we don’t have time. We need to do that building exercise as well as winning games, you know, to keep you going, to make sure that what you’re trying to do can be achieved.”
Highlanders FC opened their 2026 Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League campaign with a 1–1 draw against Bulawayo Chiefs FC.
Zibusiso Dambo put Chiefs ahead in the first half before Benjamin Adeogun struck late to earn Bosso a point in Benjani Mwaruwari’s first league game in charge.
