“Let’s avoid signing players that are older than the executive chairman”  Dynamos draw the age line as Denver Mukamba era ends

Denver Mukamba’s spell with Dynamos FC has come to an end, the club’s executive chairman Vincent Chawonza has confirmed, drawing the curtain on a turbulent but often influential return for one of the side’s most recognisable talents.

Baba Dodo, long regarded by supporters as one of the most gifted midfielders of his generation, is no longer part of the Glamour Boys squad.

“Denver Mkamba is no longer with Dynamos, as you can see that he is not in Hwange at the moment,” Chawonza said, adding that the player had decided to pursue other opportunities.”

“I think he is pursuing other means as well, but also, as a club, we are not saying Denver was not welcome or something, but he decided to go.”

The chairman was keen to frame the departure as amicable and respectful.

He described Mukamba as a club legend, praising his contribution across different eras and acknowledging the impact he made during difficult periods.

“So, Denver has done well for us, I think, and we applaud him. He is a legend at Dynamos.”

“That’s why you see people and great talent in the country that we have ever seen at the club as well. He is among the best yesteryear stars for us, but he is no longer at the club as well,” he added.

Mukamba’s most recent return to the Harare giants was marked by both promise and uncertainty. After initially being overlooked by then coach Saul Chaminuka, he was handed another opportunity by Zambian manager Kelvin Kaindu.

At crucial moments, the midfielder delivered flashes of the creativity that once made him one of the country’s brightest prospects, helping steady the team during a relegation battle.

However, questions over consistency resurfaced. In November, on the eve of the Chibuku Super Cup final against Triangle, Mukamba was absent without official leave, forcing the technical team to proceed without a player many believed could provide a decisive spark.

Chawonza indicated the club is now focused on a longer-term project centred on youth. Dynamos intend to assemble a core of younger players capable of staying together for five to six years, signalling a strategic shift away from short-term fixes.

“But also, as a club as well, we have made a decision that let’s go for the young and talented. Let’s build for the future. Let’s have a team that sticks together for five to six years. And also, let’s avoid signing players that are older than the executive chairman.”

Mukamba leaves with his legacy intact among many supporters, a player whose talent was rarely in doubt and whose name remains woven into Dynamos’ recent history, even as the club moves in a new direction.
