English Championship side Luton Town have paid glowing tribute to Marvelous Nakamba after the Warriors captain brought his spell at the club to an end, insisting his impact will never be forgotten.

The English Championship side confirmed that Nakamba completed a deadline-day switch to Sheffield Wednesday after both parties agreed to bring his contract to an end.

The move closes a significant chapter for the Hwange-born midfielder, who became a popular and influential figure at Kenilworth Road.

Nakamba first joined the Hatters on loan from Aston Villa in 2022 and quickly established himself as a key presence in midfield.

His 20 appearances that season helped drive Luton’s push to the Premier League, a campaign that ended in promotion at Wembley. A permanent move followed, and he would go on to make 61 appearances in total for the club.

“Luton Town can confirm that a mutual agreement has been reached with Marvelous Nakamba to terminate the Zimbabwe midfielder’s contract with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.

Luton Town said Nakamba etched his name into club folklore with a coolly taken penalty at Wembley during the shootout win over Coventry City.

“No Hatter will ever forget Marv’s contribution to that success, with his song ringing around Wembley after he netted his penalty in the shoot-out win over Coventry City.”

Chief executive officer Gary Sweet also hailed Nakamba’s influence both on and off the pitch.

“Marvelous has been a huge part of our success, a special character who came to add real quality at the time we needed it to help us to promotion,” Sweet said.

“He has been a pleasure to have around the Club, always smiling, even through some tough times personally with injury.

“Everyone at Luton Town thanks Marv for his contribution in his three years at Kenilworth Road, he will always be a welcome visitor, and we wish him every success for his future career,” he added.
