Warriors ready to rise against Bafana Bafana in decisive AFCON clash

Zimbabwe defender Sean Fusire insists The Warriors are ready to step up when they take on South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations Group B showdown in Morocco on Monday.

Both sides are still in the hunt to join Egypt in the round of 16. A draw is enough for Bafana, but Zimbabwe must claim all three points to keep their tournament hopes alive.

Fusire admits there are areas that need sharpening ahead of the must-win clash.

“Hopefully in this game we will see a lot more conversion of goal chances by us, because during the tournament so far, we haven’t been able to convert as many goal scoring chances. Slight lapses in concentration have cost us goals, so we need to keep it tight against South Africa.”

The two sides share a growing rivalry, and Fusire warns these matches are often unpredictable.

“I think there’s obviously the rivalry between the two nations because of our geographical proximity, so some can count this match as a bit of a derby, and in my experience you can prepare as much as you like for a derby but once the game starts, it tends to be less tactical and organised. Its going to be a case of who is more disciplined and hungry on the day.”

With a squad stacked with PSL players, Zimbabwe’s blend of local experience and top-flight exposure adds another layer to the battle.

Fusire is adamant that despite sitting bottom of Group B, the Warriors are far from out of the running. Monday’s clash at the Stade de Marrakech promises intensity, drama, and a high-stakes test for both sides.
