Munetsi returns to France as Paris FC look for a lift

Paris FC have turned to a familiar face and proven muscle in their battle to stay in Ligue 1, completing a six month loan move for Zimbabwe midfielder Marshall Munetsi from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 29 year old joins a newly promoted side locked in a relegation battle, sitting 15th and just two points clear of the play off trapdoor.

Munetsi brings Premier League intensity, elite athletic output and a proven Ligue 1 résumé, having spent six seasons at Stade de Reims, to a midfield in need of ballast and bite.

Paris FC sit 15th in the table, just two points above the relegation play off place. With little separating safety from trouble, the club have prioritised energy, structure and reliability in midfield.

He has made 13 Premier League appearances this season, scoring once in a 3-2 defeat by Burnley.

Paris FC coach Stephane Gilli says Marshall Munetsi adds a physical, box to box profile the squad lacked, with the versatility to fill multiple midfield roles and even cover in defence.

“He’s a profile we didn’t have, a player with great athletic power, a box-to-box midfielder.”

“He is capable of operating in several roles in midfield. He has even played centre-back from time to time.”

Paris FC are currently 15th in Ligue 1, two points above the relegation play-off spot.

“He’ll give us a bit more impact, a bit more size,” Gilli added.

“He has leadership qualities. He may not be the most vocal in the dressing room or in training but in matches he’ll bring energy.”

Munetsi becomes Paris FC’s second winter addition after the arrival of Luca Koleosho on loan, as the club focuses on experience and immediate impact.
