History-maker Dzvairo parts ways with Hunters FC after promotion

Hunters FC will head into their maiden Premier Soccer League season without the coach who delivered promotion, after Clifford Dzvairo confirmed his departure barely two months after guiding the Marondera-based side into the top flight.

Dzvairo, 27, leaves having authored one of the standout stories of the season, steering Hunters to the 2025 Eastern Region Soccer League title and clinching the division’s sole Premier Soccer League ticket ahead of more established rivals, including Masvingo United.

In the process, he became the youngest coach in Zimbabwean football history to secure promotion to the elite league.

“Today is a bittersweet moment as I bid farewell to the team and supporters who’ve become like family,” said Dzvairo in a statement.

“The journey we’ve shared has been one of triumphs, trials, and ultimately, triumph again – our championship win will forever be etched in my heart. Though I’m moving on, the bond we’ve formed will remain.”

Dzvairo’s impact went beyond results. Under his guidance, Rudhakwa Stadium became a fortress, and Hunters emerged as one of the most disciplined and organised sides in the region, earning their place among the league’s newcomers alongside Bulawayo Chiefs, Hard Rock FC and Agama.

Dzvairo is understood to have joined as first assistant coach, deputising Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, who was elevated to head coach following the departure of Takesure Chiragwi.

Hunters are yet to announce a replacement. However, Dzvairo has already taken another step in his development, enrolling for a CAF B coaching licence course in Tanzania, underlining his long-term ambitions in the game.

While his exit comes earlier than many expected, Dzvairo departs with his legacy secure, having delivered promotion, rewritten the record books and announced himself as one of the brightest young coaching prospects in Zimbabwean football.
