Highlanders propose new role for Benjani Mwaruwari

Highlanders are reportedly looking to offer Benjani Mwaruwari a technical role after deciding against appointing the former Warriors and Manchester City striker as head coach.

The Bulawayo giants are searching for a replacement for Pieter De Jongh, whose contract expires at the end of the year.

The undertaker had been backed by club benefactor Wicknell Chivayo to take over as head coach, with Chivayo pledging to cover his wages.

However, the club’s board is said to be against the proposal, exploring the possibility of naming him technical director while retaining authority to appoint their own head coach.

Mwaruwari’s only coaching stint in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League was with Ngezi Platinum in 2022, which lasted just six months before he was sacked.
