CAPS United’s perfect start to the 2025/26 campaign has extended beyond expectation, but the deeper detail behind the results suggests a side still searching for complete control despite their dominance on the footable.
The Green Machine remained unbeaten after edging past Kwekwe-based newcomers Hard Rock FC, a result that preserved their position at the summit. Four wins from four. Twelve points collected. Top of the standings.
CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi acknowledged a demanding tactical battle, noting that Hard Rock’s ability to circulate possession, move quickly, and apply physical pressure tested his side more than expected.
“I’ve said during my pre-match, this game was going to be very difficult and you have seen it, they were very good in terms of keeping position, the movement, they were quicker and they were very very strong,” he said.
However, he stressed that CAPS United’s defensive preparation proved decisive, saying they had anticipated the opponent’s approach, worked on it in training, and executed the game plan effectively to neutralise their threat.
“Tactically, I think we are also superior in terms of how we defend because we knew how they were going to come and we practiced that and that’s exactly what we did.”
Chiragwi pointed to a familiar issue of control in the final third, acknowledging that CAPS United had done the hard work of creating openings but failed to convert their dominance into a decisive scoreline.
He admitted the chances they spurned should have put the game well beyond doubt, suggesting the margin of victory could easily have stretched to four or five goals, had his side been more clinical in front of goal.
“The good thing that we did is to create numerous chances of scoring and we missed glorious chances. I think by today we should have won this game maybe 4 or 5 but that’s how it is.”
Ishmael Wadi struck inside four minutes, punishing an early lapse and giving CAPS United the breathing space they needed. From there though, the game never fully opened up in their favour. Chances came and went and the dominance they might have expected never truly materialised.
It took until the 85th minute for substitute Allen Mukombedzi, just 16 years old, to finally put the game beyond reach, continuing a breakout season that is quietly becoming one of CAPS United’s early storylines.
CAPS United showed growing maturity under pressure, managing fatigue from a mid-week trip but still delivering when it mattered. They struck early to control the game and sealed the win as Hardrock pushed for a comeback.
