CAPS United boss Chiragwi rolls out the red carpet for the next generation

CAPS United gaffer Takesure Chiragwi is rolling out the red carpet for the next generation, making it clear that everyone on the squad will get a shot at first-team action.

The coach has made it explicit that opportunities will not be reserved only for the established stars, every player, from seasoned campaigners to promising youngsters, will have a chance to prove themselves on the pitch.

“You know, the most important factor to come into this camp is to make sure you give everyone an opportunity to play so that you can also see their character and their confidence while they’re playing in these international friendlies,” said Chiragwi.

The coach is keen to see his young players tested under pressure, giving them minutes in friendlies to build confidence, sharpen their decision-making, and learn how to handle the pace of competitive matches.

“And you could see the youngsters. Yeah, they’re there. We need them to play so that they have that confidence.

“When they go back home, they can also go there to compete. We need all players to compete,” he added.

Chiragwi is banking on a blend of youth and experience to strengthen CAPS United’s squad. The fresh legs bring creativity, pace, and energy that can unlock defences, while the seasoned campaigners provide leadership, tactical awareness, and composure under pressure.

“Every player who is going to be registered, needs to compete and play regardless of their age, you can see now football is changing. These youngsters are the ones who are now playing.

“And with the guidance of seniors and experienced players, it’s easy for them to go in there and give what they have to.

“And it’s also an advantage to us that they have a lot of creativity, speed and energy so that they can also complement the experienced guys that we have.”

The Green Machine are in Malawi preparing for the 2026 Premier Soccer League season, playing high-profile friendlies against top local sides.

Makepekepe have already beaten Silver Strikers twice and will face MAFCO to conclude their Malawi tour. They will then move to Mozambique for a practice match in Tete before returning home to finalise preparations ahead of their PSL opener against Agama.
